Retouch a photo!

in this tutorial, we show you how we retouch a photo in no time!
approx. time= 10-15 minutes.

what you will need:
-photoshop
-a picture with a person (preferably a close up)
what we'll be doing to the photo:
-skin smoothing
-making skin tanner
-making eyes more sparkly
-making the photo lighter
-changing the contrast of the photo

Okay so first, open up your picture you want to edit in photoshop. I used the photo below, of brittany murphey. feel free to use this photo to practice.

Now that you've opened your picture, let's begin to retouch! Go up to the layer palette, and click layer> duplicate layer. then hit 'OK.'

then, go up to blur>gausian blur> & change the number to 2.1 pixels. Hit 'OK'. this should make your picture blurry.

Make sure the Background copy 2 (the duplicated layer) is selected from the layers palette, and select the eraser tool. begin erasing everything in the picture that is not skin. this includes hair, the background, eyes, mouth, etc. when you are done with this, it will make the skin much more smooth and blemish free!

Next we're going to make the skin tanner. Go up to Enhance>Adjust color>Adjust color for skin tone. You will now see your picture with a eye drop tool. take the eye drop tool and click any part of the skin. On the right side of the picture, there will be a box that you can change the temperature, blush, and tan color of the skin tone. feel free to adjust to your likes!

Next go up to Enhance>Adjust Lighting>Shadows/Highlights. This will automatically make the picture brighter, but you can adjust the settings to what you wish.

Now, go back to Enhance>Adjust Lighting>Brightness/Contrast. Keep the brightness how it is, and move the contrast dial up to make the picture more clear.

Last but not least, lets make those eyes sparkle! Select your polygonal lasso tool from the tool box, and carefully lasso the eyes. Make sure you have the (+) on the polygonal lasso so you can select both eyes at the same time. Then go back up to Enhance>Adjust Lighting>Brightness/Contrast, and change the contrast yet again as high as you wish to make the eyes more sparkly!

That is it! If you want to go a step further and add fake eyelashes with an eyelash brush like I did feel free! This is what I ended up with:
